We truly live in a depraved world. As I reflect on the tragedy at Sandy Hooks Elementary, I am reminded that evil is real, prevalent, and has always been around. I also wonder if we as a society, as believers, are responsible in some way. Have we become so tolerant that we fail to speak out against evil, stand up for the innocent, and care for the hurting.? Had anyone ever shared Jesus with the shooter or did they consider him too different to reach out and touch? Jesus would not have; I should not either. Have we allowed violent video games perpetuate our world and shrug it off as just a game or do we notice the Master of lies behind them? Are we sacrificing our children to a world of evil to which we turn a blind eye? Are we leaving society and even the church to be the sole instructor of right and wrong and of God's standards? My heart breaks that innocent children were lost on Friday but yet so grateful that each of them saw Jesus immediately.
As my grandchildren and daughter enter the public school world, I pray for them to be His salt and light and for their safety - spiritually, mentally, and now, physically. Jesus lived in a depraved world as well and He modeled to us how to do so. We should be digging into His Word.
Oh come quickly, Lord Jesus!
